Simon returns home to find another gift box, consisting of a key to their house, an audio recording of Simon and Robyn making fun of Gordo, and footage shot from inside their home that shows Gordo standing over Robyn when she had fainted, seemingly about to sexually assault her. Gordo wears the mask of a monkey (a lifelong fear for Simon) as he touches an unconscious Robyn on the bed before the camera cuts.

"Max Dugan Returns" is watchable and sort of sweet. Robards gives a poignant performance as the dying father, although the movie makes him express his love through expensive gifts that are sort of off-putting. When the movie is over, however, it seems to evaporate. It doesn't have a purpose for being; it's just spun sugar and a few tears, a plot situation set into motion to create the illusion of suspense before everyone gets what he wants, or fears, or deserves. There's hardly a moment in the whole movie that would be confused with daily life as it is really lived. Maybe that's the idea.
So I composed the music for this film from the characters or the scenes. For the music of the scene where Haru returns from the Cat Kingdom safe and sound, there is something that I think will not escape viewers who have seen If You Listen . I wanted, through my music, to establish a connection between these two films. I'll let you watch the movie and find my nod yourself."
Four in 10 Americans plan on hitting stores over the next few days, while 46 percent have no plans to shop, according to a poll from Consumer Reports. Of those who said they planned to shop, 82 percent said the biggest draw was post-holiday sales, 47 percent wanted to redeem gift cards, and 31 expected to return gifts.
You cannot create a holiday gift guide for the movie-obsessed without a Criterion selection. There are a ton of new discs to choose from this year. The Infernal Affairs trilogy is finally available. The new Malcolm X disc also contains the 1972 documentary of the same name directed by Arnold Perl and narrated by James Earl Jones. Criterion recently rescued The Power of the Dog from its streaming limbo. Again, say it with me, all hail physical media!
"Lord of the Rings" fans are the new Trekkies. (Who knew?) This documentary introduces viewers to obsessive fans, dubbed "Ringers," who wear homemade chain mail and viking helmets, or parade through town dressed as Ents, the walking and talking trees of Tolkien mythology. Some of them even have girlfriends. (They're the ones dressed as Galadriel.) In fairness, the Hobbit fans - many of whom sport hirsute feet - are a sideshow in a respectful yet irreverent film that explores J.R.R. Tolkien's impact on popular culture over the decades. In addition to interviews with academic types, author Terry Pratchett, and director Cameron Crowe, the film - narrated by Dominic Monaghan, star of the recent films - also includes insights from director Peter Jackson and the cast of his trilogy. "Ringers" will be a "precious" gift for anyone who already owns the books or movies. 2ff7e9595c
