As of September 28th, Season 3 of the US-American postapocalyptic zombie drama series Z Nation by director Karl Schaefer, produced by The Asylum (known inter alia from the Sharknado films) will be available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on the M-Square Pictures label. The release dates of season 4 and 5 are already fixed: Season 4 will be available in January 2019 on Blu-ray, DVD and as a download, Season 5 will follow in March 2020.

"World War Z" plays as if someone watched the similar "28 Days Later" and thought, "That was a good movie, but it would be better if it cost $200 million, there were armies of zombies, and the hero were perfect and played by Brad Pitt." Which is another way of saying that if you need proof that sometimes more can be less, here you go. Directed by Marc Forster and written by everyone in Hollywood, if rumors are to be believed (though three got credit), this adaptation of Max Brooks' oral history of a zombie apocalypse...

Although Mirielle Enos' talents are wasted -- she anchors a police procedural on television, but this Hollywood movie is content to cast her as a standard-issue Dutiful Wife -- there are some dandy cameos and supporting turns. I like David Morse's one scene as a twitchy, traumatized CIA agent who knows something about the origin of the disease, and James Badge Dale as a U.S. Special Forces captain whose gung-ho competence is no match for the zombie hordes, and Daniella Kertesz as Segan, an Israeli soldier whose indefatigable spirit helps the hero save the day even after she's suffered unimaginable trauma.

Forster deserves credit, I guess, for finding a way to make a PG-13 zombie movie without totally softening it. Horrendous violence occurs off-camera or below the frame line but doesn't lack for impact. There are some shiveringly good moments near the end, particularly when Gerry gets too close to a walker with snicker-snack rat-teeth. But elsewhere, you may feel as though a genre's essence has been betrayed. Forster has made a zombie movie for people who don't like zombie movies. That's not the sort of accomplishment one should brag about.

"World War Z" frames its zombie apocalypse as a global viral pandemic, not unlike SARS or swine flu, but much, much worse. This isn't always the case in traditional zombie films, like George Romero's seminal "Night of the Living Dead."

"I think this is mind candy for preppers" Bourne says, adding that preppers usually have more realistic situations in mind, like natural disasters. "If you can prepare for a zombie apocalypse you, are prepared for everything else," he says.

Created 100 years ago in 1919 by writer Johnston McCulley, Zorro is considered one of the earliest superheroes in fiction. Zorro has been the subject of numerous books, pulp magazines, comic books, TV shows, and of course, movies. The traditional story follows Spanish nobleman Diego de la Vega who pretends to be a snob who abhors violence, but secretly moonlights as the black-clad sword-wielding vigilante Zorro, which in Spanish means "Fox". As "Zorro", Diego serves as a champion of the people, fighting against oppression from the Spanish military. In most versions of the story, the inept soldiers are unable to contend with Zorro's swordsmanship. At the end of each battle, Zorro rides away on his black horse, Tornado.

Z is confirmed to take place at some point in the future and will center on a new, unrevealed character who will take up the mantle of "Zorro". A year ago, there were rumors about the story and a possible gender swap for the main hero, but official details on Z didn't drop until late last year when actor Gael Garcia Bernal, who has been cast in the project, revealed in an interview with Variety that Z takes place in a time where California never became part of the United States. Instead, California remained under Spanish control and is called "New Spain". The movie will involve slavery, and a "clash between Catholic people who spoke Spanish and Puritans who spoke English".

Z has been moving forward quite slowly. The film has no set release date, or an even a known production date. In 2016, Cuaron said he had just begun writing the script. In December 2018, Gael Garcia Bernal said that he had "no idea" when the movie would even be filmed, which indicates that Z could still be years away.

If you're a horror movie aficionado, you've likely heard of the box office and critical hit Train to Busan. The Gong Woo-led movie follows a group of travelers fighting for their lives aboard a zombie-infested high-speed train hurtling to one of the last safe places in the country. The film's powerful class commentary shows the benefit of taking collective action over prioritizing individual survival. Critics pointed out how the movie may be a response to the Sewol ferry disaster of 2014 that left 300 dead, including around 250 teenagers.

This animated prequel to Train to Busan imagines Seoul's lockdown at the start of the zombie outbreak. The movie follows former sex worker Hye-sun, who is searching for her pimp-slash-boyfriend amidst the chaos. While Train to Busan luxuriates in the spectacle of violence and the social conditions that triggered it, Seoul Station looks closer at the lives who are at the margins and most likely to be cast aside in a cataclysmic event. In fact, one of the first zombies is an old homeless man, yet his affliction is ignored due to his age and social status.

As a big zombie genre fan I found myself wanting more from the movie. If you're going to make a zombie movie, you need to go out and make a zombie movie. The movie is rated PG-13, but could it have been better if it was rated R? I think the answer is yes.

Overall I give the movie a solid B. Like I said before, if you're a fan of zombie movies you're going to be entertained. Also - don't spend the extra money to see it in 3D, it's not worth it. There are some movies where 3D really adds to experience - this is not one of those movies.
